There’s Something About Video

In all my years in software there has been something magic about the word “Visual”. Almost any product would or could be enhanced by the addition of the magic word “Visual”. There’s lots of examples, it’s not just a Microsoft trick.

Visual Thesaurus
Visual Studio
Visual Foxpro
Visual C++

I used the term “Visual Selection” while at Business Objects and it was highly effective. Now as the CMO of HuStream, I get the same feeling about the term “Video” and even more specifically software solutions built in and around video. It seems we’re all suckers for something to look at, something sparkly, something that moves.

Software solutions built in video seem to have an ability to communicate their universal applicability (and their universal appeal). This isn’t something that I’ve ever felt was the case with software built from software tools. A software tool that did a specific job, like a CRM tool, didn’t jump out and communicate well to anyone who wasn’t interested in CRM.
